Volunteer tutors get a pep talk, tips
Detroit Public Schools officially kicked off its Reading Corps program over the weekend, reports Detroit Free Press.
Over 3,639 people from across metro Detroit have committed 434,187 hours of time over five years to tutor DPS students.
About 2,500 of them got tips and a pep talk at Renaissance High School. DPS emergency financial manager Robert Bobb said said he himself signed up to tutor at Jamieson Elementary School and that he is "totally intimidated" about reading through the stack of materials that volunteers received.
Were you at the orientation? Tell us what it was like. Havent signed up yet? Go for it!
