Michigan lawmakers ready to Race to the Top?

The Associated Press is reporting that Michigan Senate and House leaders have reached an comprimise on bills to overhaul the state's education system. The bills, if passed, will qualify Michigan for up to $400 million in federal funding for schools through the Obama Administration's Race to the Top initiative.

Sticking points around limits on charter school expansion and the ability for the state to take over failing districts have stalled talks, but lawmakers claim the bills will be written and voted on today.

Let's hope so - if not they'll be getting even more calls from Detroit parents this weekend!
