Mayor goes to the White House
Today Mayor Bing was in Washington to participate in a White House jobs summit, The Detroit News reported.
At the summit, The Mayor asked The President for federal help to address one of the top items in DPN's Agenda for Detroit Kids - improving neighborhoods:
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said today he wanted to see the Obama administration boost aid to help the city tackle its 70,000 abandoned properties.
He said on the sidelines of the Obama administration's White House Jobs Summit that taking care of blighted properties will spur jobs.
Parents across the city told us how concerned they were with abandoned properties and the effect they have on their nieghborhoods and families.
In addition to speaking to The President about abandoned buildings, Mayor Bing discussed federal help with a rapid transit system for the city with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
