Freep highlights Afrocentric schools

Detroit Free Press published an exciting story last week as part of its Fixing Our Schools series, highlighting the challenges and successes of Marcus Garvey Academy. The school's Afrocentric curriculum and family-oriented structure has led to rare educational success in the city - Garvey students outperform the average in Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) scores.
