DPS, Teachers Union reach tentative deal

Positive news today for Detroit schools - Detroit News reports that DPS Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb and Detroit Federation of Teachers President Keith Johnson announced a tentative deal that will make teachers more accountable, improve student achievement and avoid the need for the district filing municipal bankruptcy.

Now it's up to the DFT members:

Teachers will get their first chance to see what the contract means to them at a meeting Sunday afternoon at Cobo Center. Secret ballots will go out to the schools on Monday and members will have about two weeks to cast their vote on whether to finalize the pact.

Bobb says the new contract would save the city in the $30 millions.
