Job Title:  Director of Education

Reports To:   Deputy Director of Programs
Salary:   $38,000 – 46,000
Summary:   This position is responsible for the management and expansion of ALL Education programs Detroit Parent Network Education programs 0-12th grade with an emphasis on early childhood education and high school graduation. The position plans, develops, strategizes, and administers programs associated with the formal education experience of children working through their parents as a primary strategy to ensure youths’ academic success. The position also directly implements the Project Graduation program focused on helping teen parents help them stay on-track, graduate high school, and go to college.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
· Leads the education department and serves as lead strategist on Education issues
· Expand the education work of Detroit Parent Network to include early childhood learning programs and more targeted high school graduation / college entry programs
· Update the agencies current education related materials including Grade level Content Expectations in parent friendly test formats
· Expand the education partners and networks within Detroit to accomplish our mission
· Build on the current Shopper Fair platform created to help parents use data to make the best education choices for their kids to include follow up supports to help parents implement their personal plans around this goal
· Organizes ALL Education related events
· Assists with agency policy work related to education
· Monitor education issues and work with the Director of External Affairs to quickly interpret and educate both internally and externally the impact of these issues. Also determine the communication strategy necessary.
· Interpret education data and train staff and parents on education data
· Works with parents to understand data and offer technical assistance to develop strategies to eliminate the achievement gap at their schools.
· Establish a system of working with formal institutions and / or groups i.e, school counselors, Head start agencies, and other education professionals to help advise our work as necessary.
· Interviews and selects staff members and provides in-service training for staff.
· Participates in fund development activities including grant writing, researching and program design.
· Education Budget Management and Oversight 
Competencies                                  
Candidates should have knowledge and experience of 0-12 education. Candidate must understand program development and execution. Candidate should have experience working within the community, with parents, and be strongly interested in increasing parent involvement in the education process. Candidates should be aware of leadership development theory and able to communicate with parents. Candidates will have strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and use data to complement program and communication strategies. Candidates should be passionate about work and enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic community organization in which expectations are high on the quality and speed of work.
Education and/or Experience:                                     
· Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; and five years related experience and/or training;
· Experience working with education systems and issues. Experience with issue campaigns; or community organizing with low-income populations; and
· Familiarity and knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media tools
· Experience with early childhood and college prep programs

4. Grant Filing and Organization
5. Communication and Correspondence Coordination
6. Research on Grant and Contract Opportunities
7. Maintenance of a Grant Schedule
8. Maintenance of Reporting Schedules
9. Other Duties Assigned
